2007 Chateau Grand Traverse Edelzwicker

Yes, Edelzwicker!

An Edelzwicker is a white wine originating from the Alsace region of northeastern France. It is a blend of several white varieties such as Rielsing and Gewurztraminer. While its name literally means "noble blend", most Edelzwickers are dry, light, simple wines that best drunk young.

The Chateau Grand Traverse version of Edelzwicker is a blend of Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Muscat. It is the Muscat that distinguishes this Michigan Edelzwicker from others.  It gives the wine a little sweetness on top of the other dry varietals used.

Dry you may say? How can wine be dry?  Well, "dry" in the world of wine means "not sweet".  Sweet wines contain more residual sugar than dry wines and that brings about their sweetness.

The 2007 Chateau Grand Traverse Edelzwicker has a golden/copper hue to it (that comes from the Muscat).  On the nose, apricots abound (again, from the Muscat).  On the taste, you will experience a delightful "off-dry" or "semi-sweet" wine, with hints of apricots, melons and peaches.  Delightful!
