M. Lawrence S.E.X.

My wife and I had S.E.X. on New Years Day and wow!

S.E.X. is the wonderful sparkling wine from producer L. Mawby Vineyards on the Leelenau Peninsula, "up north", in Michigan. Larry Mawby only makes sparkling wines, in two groups, "methode champenoise" (the champaign way) under the L. Mawby Label and the less intensive "cuve close" method under the M. Lawrence label.

S.E.X. is a  "provocative blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnaygrapes that are hand picked and carefully whole-cluster pressed. Thejuice is fermented in stainless steel tanks, then blended with reservewines and fermented a second time in a closed tank [the cuve closemethod]. The wine is then filtered, dosaged, and bottled." www.lmawby.com

Very light salmon pink in color, this wine has scents of strawberry and almonds and that follow through to the taste.  This is a dry sparkling wine, so there is no "strawberry sweetness",  just enough to entice you to keep drinking!  My wife and I truly enjoyed this bottle and will be looking for more of L. Mawby products including the seductive "Wet" which Larry Mawby boasts is "not sweet, not dry- but she is wet".  Provactive these labels are, but so far, as for the S.E.X., Mawby delivers.

I think this is a great sparkling wine. I am a huge fan of bubbles to begin with, and Larry Mawby has a gift for them. If you ever get a chance, visit his tasting room on Leelanau Peninsula. It is quite an experience.
