2008 Chateau Grand Traverse Dry Riesling
I picked this up on a "tip" from a source.
My tipster asked me if I was a fan of Michigan wine. I said that I was. She asked if I enjoyed Riesling. I said "of course", especially from Michigan. She tipped me off to the 2008 Chateau Grand Traverse Dry Riesling, which was available at Meijer for the "steal" of a price of $11.00.
Now it did not take much for me to go try a Michigan Riesling. I am a fan of Chateau Grand Traverse, having visited their tasting room on a number of occasions, and was excited to go out a grab the '08 Dry Riesling. . . especially for $11.00.
Oh, the tipster was Sandra Silfven, the wine writer for the Detroit News, so I knew the tip came from a good source!
The '08 Chateau Grand Traverse Dry Riesling is truly a delightful wine! Straw colored, on the nose I got scents of citrus, apples, pear and the slightest hint of honey. The palate is full of the same apples, citrus and pears. This is a nicely complex wine with good acidity that would pair wonderfully with salads, seafood and white meats. It would also be a great addition to your upcoming spring and summer wine collection as a "porch wine" on a warm, sunny Saturday afternoon!
I have been a follower of Sandy Silfven for a while now and she was true to form in her most recent "tip". I am sure she would not mind me passing her advice along and I am sure that Chateau Grand Traverse would not mind letting their little "secret" out! Cheers!
