A "bubbly" Tweet and Taste Michigan wrapup

Well, we put another Tweet & Taste Michigan in the books last night and I think we are starting to get it right.  First and foremost, a big thanks to Cortney and Shannon Casey of Michigan by the Bottle for organizing these wonderful events (and be sure to checkout the new Michigan by the Bottle IPhone and IPad app!).  Secondly, a huge thanks to Larry Mawby, Joni Smoker and Michael Laing of L. Mawby, for participating in the event and providing us with some wonderful sparkling wine.

In my opinion, last night's Tweet & Taste was the best so far; not in terms of the wine (although they were very good!), but in terms of how the evening progressed.  Last night's event proceeded at a wonderful pace allowing tweeters to follow the "conversation" on twitter and add to the conversation without feeling rushed or overwhelmed with the "fast and furious" pace of Tweet & Tastes in the past.  Kudos to all of us who took our time to enjoy both the wine and the information being tweeted.

We tasted two wines from the M. Lawrence label last night. . . US and FIZZ.

US is produced from pinot noir and chardonnay grapes hand harvested and whole cluster pressed.  This sparkler was dry (having residual sugar of 0.8%) but was full of wonderful fruit scents and flavors.  On the nose I found scents of apricot, green apple, peach, mango and a hint of banana.  The well balanced palate has wonderful tastes of peaches, oranges, grapefruit and a bit of lemon.  US is a delightful bubbly that was enjoyed by the group who ventured out into the cold December night last evening to help me critique these sparklers.  For about $13.00 per bottle, you should go get some to try if you have not yet.

FIZZ is also produced from pinot noir and chardonnay grapes hand harvested and whole cluster pressed.  This bubbly is finished though with a Demi-Sec dosage to sweeten it up.  FIZZ has residual sugar of 3.5% and is sweeter than the US.  Initially on the nose FIZZ was "yeasty" with not as much fruitiness as US. It did open up though to scents of lemon, pineapple and mineral notes.  On the palate, FIZZ is well balanced and showed tastes of peaches, apricots and melon.  FIZZ was also enjoyed by the group at my house and for $13.00 per bottle, it is a sparkler that you should try.

All in all, we had a wonderful night of bubbles and conversation.  Cannot wait for the next Tweet & Taste Michigan!  Cheers!!
